The Opening
The locked door
Had opened
Unexpectedly
Into the fresh,
Glossy black
Night air.
Right before you,
Also opening,
Glittering and shining
Someplace nothing
Had ever been before,
Were the eyes of opportunity
With many new choices
and chances.
And the gears of imagination
Spun wildly,
The pen
Gliding across the paper,
Smoothly as a skater
Across ice.
The world
Held its breath,
Gazing up
At the poem taking shape
On this paper.
